UNIT 1

Digital Photography

 

In this unit learners will learn about different types of digital photographic equipment, features and settings used in digital photography, how to plan a photo shoot and how to present their portfolios in digital form

They will learn essential rules of composition such as rule of thirds and leading lines as well as how lighting, props and costume can be used effectively to tell a story. On completion of this unit, learners will plan, curate and promote a photographic exhibition showcasing their best pieces


Unit 2

Creating a Digital Video Sequence

Gaming technologies, mobile phones, multimedia websites, film and television productions all use digital video to enhance and inform their content. The unit will enable learners to understand where digital video is used in the media industry such as television, film, web applications or computer gaming. The learner will also learn how these technologies are developed to reach an identified target audience

Students will be asked to plan, script and storyboard their ideas for an original short film. They will learn how to analyse existing video products looking at cinematography, conventions and mise en scene. They will then shoot the footage using high quality cameras and edit the sequence on professional editing software adobe premier and final cut pro.  In addition to this they will create an original soundtrack containing sound effects, music and dialogue. They will showcase their short films at a student run film festival for which they will create promotional materials


Unit 3

Creating Digital Graphics

The aim of this unit is for learners to understand the basics of digital graphics editing for the creative and digital media sector. They will learn where and why digital graphics are used and what techniques are involved in their creation. This unit will develop learners’ understanding of the client brief, time frames, deadlines and preparation techniques as part of the planning and creation process. Learners will have to plan, design and create a front cover for a new music magazine. They will have to produce original interview materials and original photographs before using editing software InDesign and Photoshop to create their finished magazine cover


Unit 4

Pre-Production Skills

This unit will enable learners to understand pre-production skills used in the creative and digital media sector. It will develop their understanding of the client brief, time frames, deadlines and preparation techniques that form part of the planning and creation process. Planning is an essential part of working in the creative and digital media sector. This unit will enable learners to acquire the underpinning knowledge and skills needed to create digital media products and gain an understanding of their application
