Industry partners lead training workshops, or ‘Masterclasses’ through which our students develop skills and expertise in techniques that are used in workplaces and the creative industries

By the time our students are securing interviews for employment opportunities, they are already familiar with management systems and working to a professional standard using hardware and software packages used throughout industry

below some of the masterclasses that took place at MCS

user Experience Masterclass - Amaze

A key element of the Padoq social media brief was the User Experience and testing that was carried out on Day 2. A select group of just 16 students from Year 10 & Year 12 were selected for this due to an existing technical interest in app development and testing, or a keen eye for design and user experience

To kick off the day, we were delighted that Penny Kirby from the full service digital agency, Amaze, was able to come in and give a talk on the key principles of user experience and user testing. With over 17 years’ experience to draw upon, as well as examples of work Amaze have done with well known brands, within just one hour, our students were much more equipped to carry out user experience testing on Padoq with a new found level of confidence and knowledge

Special Effects & Prosthetics - Movie Magic

We were delighted recently to invite in Ruby Fryman, who showed our students some tricks of the trade when it comes to special effects make up for film!
A really fun and interactive day saw lots of students walking around the school with fake, blood spattered wounds and terrifying some of the staff who at first sight, couldn’t make out the difference!

The session was particularly useful for our Year 12 Media students who are in the process of making a ten-minute horror film (Humorous) as part of their course. Upon approaching their work bench, one could find fake limbs being molded which will be used in the film – muahahahahaha!

Mathematics Masterclasses - EQUAL Masters

MCS were invited to send a select group of students to a Maths Masterclass being run in a joint venture by the University of Manchester & the University of Salford

Aimed at students displaying a talent for Maths and held in the University of Salford’s Maxwell Building, our students took part in a series of A Level Maths taster workshops throughout the day. Working on complex tasks and alongside other schools didn’t phase MCS students one bit as they were the perfect representative of Team MCS!
