The aims of the Maths GCSE curriculum are to encourage fluency and understanding, not just memorised facts, have techniques to solve problems enabling pupils to reason Mathematically. It also enable pupils to understand Maths in a variety of forms and contexts of the mathematics department is to equip, develop and encourage students to excel in mathematics and achieve to their full potential in the new, more rigorous, gcse course

Students will be enabled to Become problem solvers who are able to apply their combined mathematical and general knowledge while enjoying the challenges of mathematics and aspiring to pursue mathematics beyond the GCSE curriculum


YOUR ROUTE THROUGH THE COURSE

 

The assessments will cover the following content headings:

 

1 : Number

2 : Algebra

3 : Ratio, proportion and rates of change

4 : Geometry and measures

5 : Probability

6 : Statistics

 

CONTENT

 

Two tiers are available: Foundation and Higher (content is defined for each tier)

Each student is permitted to take assessments in either the Foundation tier or Higher tier

 

QUALIFICATION

The qualification consists of three equally-weighted written examination papers at either Foundation tier or Higher tier

All three papers must be at the same tier of entry and must be completed in the same assessment series

Paper 1 is a non-calculator assessment and a calculator is allowed for Paper 2 and Paper 3

Each paper is 1 hour and 30 minutes long

Each paper has 80 marks

Math Teachers

Michael Macklin

I have over 30 years’ experience as both Maths and Senior Maths teacher across the northwest.  Having moved up the ranks to Assistant Headteacher at a previous school, I then went on to join Teaching Leaders where I work to help senior leaders to develop their capacity across a range of school. Passionate about teaching, and Maths in general, I joined Manchester Creative Studio to support our students through their GCSEs. Outside of teaching I am a family man and passionate supported of Celtic Football Club
